Safety NL provides several different driving courses that are designed to help you, your family, or even your employees stay safe on the road. We also provide courses that are required in order to reduce the points on your driving record or if you have lost your license..

 

DEFENSIVE DRIVING

 

Driver training isn’t just for new drivers! Whether you’re a beginner or seasoned driver, Safety NL can help you, your family, or even your employees stay safe on the road.

Educate you and your team about driving hazards. Safety NL offers a full day Defensive Driving Course that can be offered at your workplace or at our training facility.

 

POINT REDUCTION PROGRAM

 

The Point Reduction Course allows for a maximum of four points to be removed from your driving record and can be taken once every five years. The points will be removed; however, the convictions for any points will remain on your driver’s abstract for five years. Upon completion of this course, we will fax confirmation of your attendance to Motor Vehicle Registration so they can make the adjustment to your driver’s record.

SafetyNL does not have access to your driving record, so please direct any inquiries to the Motor Vehicle Registration office nearest you.

IF YOUR LICENCE HAS BEEN SUSPENDED BECAUSE OF POINTS YOU NEED TO TAKE THE RESPONSIBLE DRIVERS WORKSHOP, NOT THE POINT REDUCTION COURSE

 

RESPONSIBLE DRIVERS PROGRAM (DRIVER SAFETY COURSE)

 

The Responsible Drivers Workshop (Driver Safety Course) is a mandatory program for drivers who have lost their license due to points. SafetyNL does not have access to your driving record, so please ensure that you are taking the correct course. Please direct any inquiries to the Motor Vehicle Registration office nearest you.

 

THINK FIRST (SHIP) ALCOHOL AND DRUG EDUCATION PROGRAM

 

The “Think First” (SHIP) program is a mandatory course for those looking to have their driver’s license reinstated. The four hour program is designed to educate you on:

  • How alcohol & drugs affect the body.
  • The laws about alcohol and drugs, and driving.
  • Ways to avoid becoming impaired.
  • Where to go if you need further help or more information.

 

The course consists of group discussions, lectures, and video presentations. You must pre-register for this program by submitting your registration form and the course fee to SafetyNL (see address below).

We do not accept personal cheques. Payment can be made by VISA MasterCard or money order. Upon receipt of your course fee, a confirmation of registration will be forwarded to you.

Notification will be forwarded to Motor Vehicle Registration Division for processing upon completion of this course.

SafetyNL does not have access to your driving record. We offer the four hour Think First SHIP program.

If you are not sure which one you are required to complete, PRIOR TO REGISTRATION please visit the Motor Vehicle Registration (MVR) office nearest you or call their Teleservice at 1-877-636-6867 or 709-729-0345. Or you can email them at driverrecords@gov.nl.ca . Absolutely No Refunds if you register/attend the Think First SHIP Program and later learn that it does not meet the requirements set out by MVR.

 

TRAFFIC – PDIC/DDC – TRAIN-THE-TRAINER/ PROFESSIONAL DRIVER IMPROVEMENT

 

Through the use of visual aids and qualified instructors, this course will show your drivers how to avoid potentially dangerous situations. Classroom participation involves case studies and active discussion of real-life situations, as well as identifying traffic hazards.

This course is designed for the adult learner and is is proven to produce:

  • fewer company-vehicle collisions;
  • less absenteeism due to injuries and court time
  • life-long safe driving habits.

 

DEFENSIVE DRIVING – TAXI DRIVERS

 

This training program consists of the Canada Safety Council one day in-class defensive driving course plus a two hour in-vehicle driver assessment with written report. This program meets the new requirements for applying for a class four driver’s license in Newfoundland and Labrador.
