MUSCULOSKELETAL INJURY PREVENTION

Did you know that 68% of all claims involving lost time from work are because of musculoskeletal injuries? (WPNL). These are soft tissue injuries that can be caused by a variety of means including sudden impact or unbalanced position, repetitive motion, or cumulative trauma, and can affect muscles, nerves, ligaments, joints, blood vessels. These can begin as short-term discomforts, but with continued strain can become permanent disabilities. Employers are responsible for recognizing potential MSI risk factors and implementing effective controls in partnership with the OHS Committee and the employee showing signs and symptoms of musculoskeletal injury. They are also required to educate and train workers in risk identification and specific control measures.

The MSI workshop will provide instructions in proper workplace ergonomics, and how to recognize and avoid potential causes of musculoskeletal injury. It covers a variety of scenarios and can be tailored to any occupation, including trades, construction, retail, or working in an office. Each profession carries its own risks of MSI injuries.
